1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Coasty ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

These Terms apply to all users of the Service, including both free and Premium subscribers.

2. Description of Service

Coasty is a personal finance tracking application designed to help users:

• Track net worth by manually entering account balances
• Visualize financial progress over time
• Calculate retirement projections (Coast FIRE calculations)
• Monitor multiple account types (investments, debts, assets)

The Service is provided as-is, and we reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.

3. User Accounts and Subscriptions

Free Version

The free version of Coasty requires no account creation. All data is stored locally on your device.

Premium Subscription

• Premium subscriptions cost $1/month or $10/year
• You must create an account with a valid email address
• Payment is processed through Stripe
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled
• You may cancel at any time through your account settings
• Refunds are provided on a case-by-case basis at our discretion

Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
• All activities that occur under your account
• Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You may NOT:

• Violate any applicable laws or regulations
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app
• Use the Service to track finances for illegal activities
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
• Distribute malware or harmful code through the Service
• Impersonate another person or entity
• Share your Premium account with others

You are solely responsible for:

• The accuracy of all financial data you enter
• Keeping your financial information up to date
• Backing up your data (free version only)
• Understanding and using the retirement calculations correctly

We are not responsible for any errors in your data entry or financial decisions based on calculations from the app.

7. Privacy and Data Storage

Free Users: All financial data is stored locally on your device. We never see or access this data.

Premium Users: Your financial data still remains on your device. We only store your account information (email, subscription status) for subscription management.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including all content, features, and functionality, is owned by Coasty and is protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

• The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind
• We are not liable for any financial losses, missed opportunities, or investment decisions made based on the Service
• We are not liable for data loss (though free users should back up their data)
• Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for Premium subscription in the past 12 months (maximum $12)

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability, so these limitations may not apply to you.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for:

• Violation of these Terms
• Fraudulent or illegal activity
• Extended periods of inactivity (Premium accounts)
• Any reason at our sole discretion

You may terminate your Premium subscription at any time through your account settings.

11. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by:

• Posting the updated Terms on this page
• Updating the "Last updated" date
• Sending email notification to Premium subscribers

Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the Province of Ontario, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada.
